Scoptophobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by morbid fear of being seen or stared by others.

This video installation was set in an old computer lab in Sabanci University in Istanbul. By entering the room, one becomes the center of attention surrounded by the faces placed in old monitors. Their gaze is direct, continuous and follows you around as you walk around the room. This work questions how scoptophobia functions especially in today's world of mass surveillance. Piece's name comes from "tension" in Greek symbolizing "to look fixedly, gaze, fasten one's eyes upon".
